Pull the Tape, Not the Cable

At some point in life, every production person has been in the gaff tape battle. You know, that moment when the gaff tape wraps around the cable sticking to itself. It’s a nuisance! You end up trying to fight and pull the tape.

We’ve all done it. For some reason, the right way seemed counterintuitive to me at first. Then I was taught this trick: Pull the TAPE, not the CABLE.

The WRONG way

When you pull the cable first, the tape naturally wraps around the cable sticking to itself, and leaving you with this headache:

The RIGHT way

Instead, keep your hand or foot on the cable, and pull the tape up first so that it can’t wrap around the cable. I hear our team chanting this mantra all the time to new production people…Pull the tape, not the cable!
